— Support models that treat mental health, addiction, and behavioral health crises as public health issues, not default criminal matters.
— Endorse training for first responders in crisis intervention, de-escalation, trauma-informed care, and addiction awareness.
— Expand co-response models (law enforcement + clinicians/peer specialists), diversion programs, and community-based care options rather than over-reliance on incarceration.
Transparency, Community Oversight & Public Trust
— Push for publicly accessible reporting of law enforcement data: use-of-force, complaints, disciplinary actions, outcomes.
— Support establishment of civilian oversight or reform & oversight councils that include community leaders, legal experts, civil-rights advocates, and service providers.
— Promote community engagement through regular public forums, multilingual outreach, and open communication so public safety agencies serve — and are accountable to — all residents.
Public Safety Reform & Institutional Accountability
— Advocate for transparent and accountable law enforcement statewide and locally.
— Support reforms to eliminate corruption, internal misconduct, and subculture abuses that undermine public trust (e.g., “deputy gangs,” unchecked power, lack of independent oversight).
— Promote independent oversight, transparent use-of-force and misconduct reporting, and merit-based promotion and discipline policies.
